Fresh colour is an investment, and the right everyday routine helps you enjoy it for longer.

Colour naturally changes as hair is washed, exposed to heat and moved through daily life. The aim is not to freeze it exactly as it looked on appointment day. It is to slow avoidable fading, preserve condition and keep the tone looking intentional until your next visit.

1. Follow the first-wash advice

Ask your colourist when to shampoo after your appointment, because the advice can vary with the service. Once you begin washing again, avoid doing it automatically every day if your scalp and routine do not need it. Fewer unnecessary washes usually mean less colour leaving the hair.

2. Keep the water comfortably warm

Very hot water can leave coloured hair feeling dry and may speed up fading. Use comfortably warm water while cleansing, then finish slightly cooler if that feels pleasant. Concentrate shampoo at the scalp and let the lather travel through the lengths rather than scrubbing the ends.

3. Choose products for your colour and texture

A gentle colour-care shampoo and a conditioner suited to your hair can make the routine simpler. Blonde, copper, brunette and vivid colours may need different toning support, so ask how often to use any pigmented product. Overusing a toner can make the result dull or shift the tone away from what you wanted.

Salon tip: Heat protection is useful every time you blow-dry, straighten or curl—not only on special occasions.

4. Use the lowest effective heat

Pat hair with a towel rather than rubbing it, apply heat protection evenly and allow some air-drying time when practical. On hot tools, start lower and increase only if needed. Slow, repeated passes at maximum heat are harder on both colour and condition than controlled styling.

5. Plan for sun, swimming and maintenance

Before swimming, wet the hair with fresh water and apply a suitable leave-in product if your stylist recommends one. Rinse soon afterwards. Hats and UV-protective hair products can also help during long periods outdoors. Finally, book glosses, toners or regrowth services according to the colour plan you agreed on—not only when the result feels overdue.

Your best routine should be specific and manageable. Bring your current products to a consultation if you are unsure; a stylist can help you keep what works and remove steps that do not add value.
